Selfie and name

I am Ava, 30 years old and from Germany. I work with pharmaceutical databases in health regulation full time, and I study law part time. Last year, I got certified as a data protection consultant. Aside from that, I like to create pixel art, blog, play MtG, do embroidery and sew! I am also chronically ill. Since I don't work in the field (yet) I wanted to immerse myself more in data protection, only engaging with university materials is very one-sided. I also wanted to support the cause and create something alongside people who are as passionate about it as I am.

I want to make data protection law more accessible to people who are not familiar with law otherwise. Court decisions and similar material can be hard to find, very long-winded and difficult to read. Also, it's a perfect opportunity for me to practice Legal English (as I study in German only) and to be up-to-date on what's going on in the field. Plus, some decisions are kind of entertaining to read, like when a court said the data subject's lawyer is lucky they aren't responsible for judging whether the lawyer is fit to be one. Made me laugh.

I want to give people a different view of data protection law and the people associated with it. I want them to know that it is touching their lives every day and is a rewarding interest with lots of people in it that aren't the stereotype of a lawyer.

I wish we were asking more whether we should over just whether we can do something. Less hype around shiny, new tech toys and more considerations for the ethical and long-term aspects.

I've also made it into the newsletter four times this month!
